Abakundakawa, Women Coffee, Grade A1, Scr. 15+, Bourbon

This Fairtrade and Organic certified washed coffee comes from the Abakundakawa Washing Station. Nearly two decades ago, Abakundakawa established the women‘s group Hingakawa, which means „grow coffee“ and now includes 916 women. It was formed to unite women whose husbands were either victims or perpetrators of the 1994 genocide. The women aspired to process and market their coffee separately, emphasizing quality and ownership. Today, their coffee is sold internationally, earning premiums reinvested into community projects such as sewing, land acquisition for new coffee trees, and livestock distribution (goats and pigs) to boost family income and provide natural fertilizer. Members also receive mattresses and support for health insurance and school fees. Hingakawa is now a recognized producer on the global market, exporting over three containers of coffee annually.
