Café del Futuro, Grade 1, SHB+, Mundo Novo, Bourbon, Caturra, Catimor
This coffee comes from the Asociación Café del Futuro, which includes over 600 farmers from the Jaén region in Peru. The cooperative was founded in 2007 and is known for high-quality coffees with selected varieties such as Caturra, Catimor, Bourbon, and Mundo Novo, with a strong focus on certified coffees.
Since 2021, we have been working closely with the Asociación Café del Futuro to strengthen farmers’ food security and promote sustainable farming practices. During this time, more than 200 vegetable gardens have been created, composting modules introduced, and targeted training sessions carried out. Today, our initiative reaches 435 families, enhancing their economic stability, protecting the environment, and supporting them on their path toward diverse and sustainable agriculture.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Cultivating Resilience with the Asociación Café del Futuro
Since 2019, our partnership with the Asociación Café del Futuro in Jaén and San Ignacio, Peru, has grown into much more than sourcing exceptional coffees like Caturra, Bourbon, and Mundo Novo. Together, we’ve built a model of resilience that strengthens both farming families and the environment.
In response to the challenges of food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic, we launched our first project in 2021: the creation of 105 Sustainable Home Vegetable Gardens. Families received raised beds, seeds, tools, and training, enabling them to grow fresh, nutritious produce right at home. By 2022, the initiative expanded to support 206 families, transforming gardens into reliable sources of food and income.
Building on this success, 2023 saw the introduction of composting modules, empowering families to recycle coffee pulp and organic waste into nutrient-rich fertilizer, reducing reliance on costly external inputs and supporting certified organic coffee production.
In 2024, the project entered a new phase with initiatives designed for long-term impact:
Food Security & Diversification: Expanding vegetable gardens so families can cover up to 70% of their food needs and generate extra income.
Environmental Protection: Installing Vetiver pools to naturally filter wastewater from coffee processing and safeguard local ecosystems.
Agroecological Practices: Providing 229 new composting modules, benefiting a total of 435 farming families with sustainable soil nutrition.
Soil Regeneration: Supplying chelated minerals and effective microorganisms produced locally, tailored to coffee’s growth cycle, ensuring healthy soils and thriving crops.
Together with the Asociación Café del Futuro and PERHUSA, we are proving that investing in sustainable farming practices not only secures better coffee but also fosters stronger, more resilient communities. Read more here.
